Megan is the owner and head trainer here at For Paws. Megan's training journey started with Skylar, a black lab Megan had pestered her parents for for years. Skylar has learned to smell bedbugs, hit buttons, and do handstands with Megan. Megan's second dog, Koda, came along just two years later. From a young age, Koda began learning tasks as a service dog to help mitigate the symptoms of Megan's chronic illnesses. A well-rounded dog, Koda has helped evaluate and train client dogs, has learned more tricks than you could count, and has dabbled in all kinds of sports. After falling in love with service dog training, Megan raised and trained Louis, a yellow lab, as a medical alert and mobility service dog for a client in Minnesota. Tarlo, a chocolate lab, was recently placed as a migraine alert and multipurpose service dog in Washington .
After eight years of learning and over one hundred clients, Megan is working to earn her CPDT-KSA and CBCC-KA certifications after interning and working under a trainer, working with a service dog foundation, and doing her independent study. She understands the ever-growing research about our canine companions and is continually expanding the breadth and depth of her dog training knowledge. She currently holds her CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer- Knowledge Asses), CDTK (Certified in Dog Training Knowledge) with CATCH and is a Service Dog Coach (SDC) with Cooperative Paws Service Dog Coach.
Megan has earned her CPDT-KA. CPDT-KA® certification recognizes the knowledge and experience of professional dog trainers. Certificants must provide references that attest to their work and pass a rigorous written exam that focuses on the science behind dog behavior and the application of training techniques. CPDT-KA® certification provides an independent, scientifically valid measure of an individual's understanding of the field of dog training, including instruction skills, learning theory, ethology, equipment, and animal husbandry.
Megan has earned her CDTK through CATCH.
"At CATCH, we are proud and excited to have had the opportunity to teach you dog-friendly, positive reinforcement training techniques. Students learn the LIMA (Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive) approach to training which is widely supported and recognized as an industry standard by the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, and other leading organizations in our field."
Megan has earned her SDC through Cooperative Paws.
From their website: "Cooperative Paws Service Dog Coach™ is a service dog trainer certificate program developed by Veronica Sanchez M.Ed. CABC, CPDT-KA, an expert in service dog training. The program is for experienced professional pet dog trainers who would like to expand their knowledge of service dog training. Successful graduates earn the respected SDC™ certification."
Megan has completed the Aggression in Dogs Master Course to continue learning how to best help your reactive or aggressive dog.
